Open the door to Blenker Building Systems' 86,000 square-foot roof truss, wall panel, and floor panel
facility in Amherst, Wisconsin, and you're greeted with lumber riding on rails enroute to a computer-orchestrated
cutting station...and tiered sorting carts carrying finished parts away to assembly stations.
You would expect to hear that all of the automated efficiency packed into the Blenker facility is to maximize
margins and enhance the bottom line but, according to Blenker's president, Jason Blenker, "The numbers are only a
part of our goal, the smaller part... our primary goal is to build exceptional quality trusses and panels... that's
our mark so to speak, and everything falls into place if what you're selling is genuinely and consistently quality."
The Blenkers wanted an exceptional quality roof truss, wall panel and floor panel product for their customers. "All
the parts have to be made correctly and fit together perfectly, all the lumber has to be quality," says Jason. Blenker
switched to a minimum of 1650 MSR lumber to minimize problems with their cutting and marking equipment. This automatically
makes it easier for his crews to assemble the wall panels. According to their customers, this is a winning combination.
"Because of Blenker's new automatic cutting systems they use a very high grade of stud, and the computer compensation of the
saw cuts even slightly twisted lumber true. The resulting panels are of a noticeably higher quality for professionals that work with
them in the field," said Scott Irwin, of I3SM, LLC in Peru, IL.
